There is no charge for taking this examination and the results are advisory, not mandatory. But I got 2 emails from UCSD saying ' Our records indicate that your official transcripts have not yet been received by the Office of Admissions. The exam is available online beginning May 1, 2022, and must be completed before July 1 so your placement recommendation is available when you register for classes during New Student Session. On my checklist it shows that they have received my official transcripts. You must take the online Chemistry Diagnostic Test if you plan to enroll in Chemistry 17, Chemistry 14A, Chemistry 14AE, Chemistry 20A or Chemistry 20AH during fall quarter. There is a $20 non-refundable charge since the test is operated by a third party – ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL). Please do not pay the exam fee online until you receive the test notification letter. In early April, students invited to take the exam will receive a letter with their assigned test location and exam fee.
The test will take place on the morning of May 21, at testing centers throughout the state.
Admitted students from California high schools who have not satisfied this requirement by April 1 must take the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE). All incoming freshmen must demonstrate their command of the English language by fulfilling the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR).
